this version of util-vserver (assumed it is 0.30.215)
is too old for the 2.6.27.x-vs2.3 kernels, i.e.
you want to upgrade that anyways

what I mean is that the debian packages are usually
broken (kernel and util-vserver) nowadays, so basically
replacing them (e.g. building them from source) fixes
the issues ...

debian for sure is a _lot_ more problematic than other
distros, usually not because of the distro itself, but
because of the strange policies and update behavriour
