forgot.. typically during the vserver install the --interface argument takes 
the form of  --interface eth0:192.168.1.25/24 and that's all it needs to get 
it right. it must have the /cidr portion or your network interface will not 
work correctly. nothing is assumed. the network code works out the gateway 
and broadcast from the cidr and the host network setup.
