Mon, 11 Apr 2016 12:26:19 +0700 Thanks Bertl! Well, so far no joy. I downloaded the source for both kernels 3.14.52 and 3.14.57, patched 'em both with linux-3.14.52-vs2.3.6.15, configured 'em both using the config-3.14.57-ipfire and then 'make oldconfig'. The output of the 3 operations on the .57 source ... http://jfmxl.sdf.org/linux-3.14.57-vs2.3.6.15/linux-3.14.57-vs2.3.6.15-patch.out.html http://jfmxl.sdf.org/linux-3.14.57-vs2.3.6.15/linux-3.14.57-vs2.3.6.15-make oldconfig choices.html http://jfmxl.sdf.org/linux-3.14.57-vs2.3.6.15/linux-3.14.57-vs2.3.6.15-make-err.html They both fail to make, with the same error. include/linux/fs.h:741:15: error: incompatible types when assigning to type ‘ktag t’ from type ‘int’ inode->i tag = make ktag(&init user ns, tag); ^ /home/jfl/src/linux/linux-3.14.57-vs2.3.6.15/./Kbuild:81: recipe for target 'arch/x86/kernel/asm-offsets.s' failed make[1]: *** [arch/x86/kernel/asm-offsets.s] Error 1 Makefile:888: recipe for target 'prepare0' failed make: *** [prepare0] Error 2 I have an arch/x86/kernel/asm-offsets.c but no arch/x86/kernel/asm-offsets.s I'm trying to compile these kernels on my debian jessie machine. I don't know if that's the problem or not. Thanks again for all your help.
